Maintenance & Tune-Ups

The cheapest thing you can do for your system. Twice a year, we catch the small problems before they become the 4th-of-July phone call.

Almost every emergency call we run could have been caught earlier. A weak capacitor, a dirty coil, a drain line about to clog, a refrigerant charge slowly dropping. None of that announces itself until the day the system quits — usually the hottest or coldest day of the year, which is also the day everybody else is calling too.

A tune-up in spring for the cooling side and one in fall for the heating side keeps the system running at the efficiency you paid for, protects the manufacturer warranty, and buys you years on the back end. We clean the coils, check the charge, test the electrical components under load, flush the drain, and give you a written summary of what we found — including the things that are fine.

What Happens During Your HVAC Tune-Up?

  • Spring cooling tune-up and fall heating tune-up
  • Condenser and evaporator coil cleaning
  • Refrigerant charge and superheat/subcool verification
  • Capacitors, contactors and motors tested under load
  • Condensate drain flush and safety switch test
  • Filter check and airflow measurement
  • Combustion and heat exchanger safety inspection on gas equipment
  • Written summary of findings, including what is still in good shape

Why Southern Summit

We are Neal and Hunter — two guys out of Hickory running a veteran-owned, licensed heating and cooling company (NC License #33148). You get one of us on the phone and one of us on the job, every time. We do every job like it is our own: an honest diagnosis, our real recommendation, options that fit your budget, and the work backed by a 1-year labor and 10-year parts warranty. In about a year, more than seventy of your neighbors across the foothills have left us a five-star review — that is the standard we are protecting on your job too.

Common questions

How often does my system need service?
Twice a year is the standard — once before cooling season and once before heating season. If you only do one, do the one before the season you rely on most.
Does maintenance really matter, or is it an upsell?
It matters. Manufacturers require documented maintenance to honor most parts warranties, and a dirty coil can cost you 20 percent of your efficiency without anything looking wrong.
How often should I change my filter?
A one-inch filter every one to three months, a four- or five-inch media filter every six to twelve. If you have pets or allergies, go on the short end.
Do you offer a maintenance plan?
Ask us — we will set you up on a schedule so you are not the one having to remember it.
